Agrostis castellana Highland Bent C DD I
This introduction looks like an overgrown Agrostis capillaris (Common Bent) at first and like many of these wispy grasses is very difficult to photograph. Close examination of the ligules shows that they decrease in size down the stem which (I was told) is a diagnostic for this species.
This plant is described as a casual of grass seed and is also a wool alien but has spread throughout England. In spite of its name there is very little in Scotland none in Ireland and only a few sites in Wales.
