This introduction from West Asia has been grown in gardens and then very successfully escaped into the wild. It is often seen on roadside verges where, until it flowers, you could be fooled into thinking you were looking at a dock like Rumex obtusifolius (Broad-leaved Dock). It is now common throughout England and most of Wales but scattered in Scotland.
