A common plant of the salt marshes and shore line, Aster tripolium looks very like a Michaelmas Daisy. This also grows inland where rivers are tidal and the water remains brackish.

Apart from one or two blank stretches such as that coast near Aberdeen, this plant is found throughout the British Isles and Ireland.
