Mostly associated with coastal sites in Wales and the west and north east of the England this plant is actually distributed inland throughout Southern England as well. It is quite a small grass and easily overlooked. Normally it would be greenish in colour but this one was found in a poor soil in a dry situation and such conditions do sometimes lead to colour changes. Typically it has a branched panicle of spikelets without hairs and is stiff to the touch.
