Clinopodium vulgare Wild Basil CC DD N
This is a plant easily overlooked since it will typically grow amongst other interesting species which divert attention elsewhere. Although it is supposed to grow in light soils according Stace, I find it most often on basic soils with Origanum vulgare (Marjoram) and Anacamptis pyramidalis (Pyramidal orchid).
It is very common in southern and central England and thins out as you go north with only a little to be found in the far north of Scotland. Strangely, it is quite rare in Ireland.
