This is a very common grass growing not only through the whole of England, Scotland and Wales but in the outlying islands of the Hebrides and Shetland as well. It is a quite distinctive grass, light green in colour, not much more than 60 cm in height maximum and with a one sided "crest" (not obvious in this photo) which gives it its name.
