Hippocrepis scabra   No English name

Hippocrepis scabra whole Hippocrepis scabra close

We found this relative of the Horseshoe vetch (Hippocrepis comosa) in a rough (hence scabra) and stony place where it seemed to thrive. It is a native of Spain and was once known as Hippocrepis almeriensis. The big difference between this flower and the much commoner H. comosa is the darker and more pronounced stripes on the standard (upright) petal.
