Juncus compressus   Round-fruited Rush C DD N

Juncus compressus

This was actually found on the "Green Beach" at Southport. This is an area of naturally self-reclaiming land where vegetation has taken over from what used to be a normal sandy beach. There was quite a patch of this Round-fruited Rush but it was tricky to photograph in the constant sea breeze.

There is hardly any of this rush to be found in Ireland, very little in Scotland and not much in Wales except for the north coast. In the midlands and south east of England however it is very common.
