This is the commonest of the two common poppies (P. dubium and P. rhoeas) at least in this part of the country. Often it is a good deal paler than the photo here being almost orange from a distance. The seed heads are quite long and distinctly different from P. rhoeas though, and it will happily grow on wasteland where P. rhoeas generally prefers a grassy habitat.
