Petasites paradoxus    Alpine Butterbur

Petasites paradoxus whole Petasites paradoxus close

This was the only example we found in the Dolomites of Petsites paradoxus. At a height of 7335 feet, Passo Giau is very much in the Alpine region. Unlike the British Petasites hybridus (Butterbur), the leaves and flowers were present at the same time with many flowers concealed by the very large leaves.

Although found here and there throughout Europe, the main concentrations are to be found in the Dolomites and the Alps with some in the Pyrenees.
