Polygonia c-album Polygonia c-album

I used to think of this butterfly as unusual but once the Sedum spectabile (Ice Plant) spread and produced a huge crop of flowers, Commas would appear in numbers in the Autumn in our garden. The record so far is eight at one time counted at one time in 2002. They also like feeding on the juices from fallen apples and are usually the last garden butterfly of the Autumn. Increasingly a few have been seen as the first butterflies of the new year early in Spring.
