Calothamnus lehmannii Endemic
We were exploring the famous Stirling Range National Park via Red Gum Pass road and came across some beautiful yellow Lambertia inermis in flower. I was so keen to get good close-up photos of the Lambertia I didn't notice the rather dull prostrate shrub on the opposite verge at first. Looking more closely at the flowers they reminded me of a Calothamnus species but most of those I had seen were tall plants with bright red blooms. Eventually with the help of Florabase I tracked it down to Calothamnus lehmannii which has been recorded from several places in the Stirling Range National Park.
Calothamnus lehmannii has been mostly recorded in the far south west corner of Western Australia with a reasonable populations inland from Bunbury. Iin the south,it is found inland from Albany and east in the Stirling Range but it is not a common species.
