Cryptandra arbutiflora Waxy Cryptandra Endemic
This was a small, almost insignificant little species which our host botanist pointed out to us in our trip around this delightful Wandoo forest. It had the look of a member of the Heath family to me (Ericaceae) but is actually in the Buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae).
It has a slightly strange distribution in that most records are in the far south west from Perth to Margaret River then inland to all around Manjimup. There are no Florabase records in the Dandaragan area and further north until near Geraldton where a good number appear again into Kalbarri National Park and almost to Shark Bay. A different species, Cryptandra pungens is found in that area with no records between Perth and Geraldton.
