It is quite tricky to find a place to stop on the winding narrow road up to the Omalos plateau below the White mountains but we found such a spot. The flora changes as you climb into the hills and the dominant shrub was Daphne sericea with pink, waxy flowers when just opened, fading to yellow when they are older. Shrubs were covered in blooms and in between orchids such as Barlia robertiana (Giant Orchid) and Orchis pauciflora (Sparsely flowered Orchid) bloomed. This shrub is grown in gardens for its fragrant pink blooms but it is poisonous.
