Echium albicans   White-leaved Bugloss Endemic

Echium albicans whole Echium albicans close

Walking in the National Park Lake District area near Ardales there were many beautiful wild flowers but few as striking as this isolated endemic plant growing in the rocks in the hills. The flowers with their pink anther filaments start pink and fade to purple and finally go blue, a colour scheme set off by the felty, narrow, mid grey leaves. I struggled with the identification of this plant but thanks to David Shaw who came to my rescue.
