Trifolium stellatum   Starry Clover

Trifolium stellatum flower Trifolium stellatum fruit

This is a rare casually introduced plant in the British Isles and has been naturalised on shingle in West Sussex for years according to Stace. In much of the Mediterranean on the other hand it is a very common native clover. The rather unspectacular smallish clover flower heads give way to much larger fruiting head with prominent brick red calyx lobes.
