Androsace alpina   Alpine Rock Jasmine Endemic

Androsace alpina whole Androsace alpina whole

As well as the numerous cushions of blue Eritrichium nanum (King of the Alps) at the top of Piz Nair, there were a fair number of small mounds of this delightful pink Rock Jasmine which is endemic to the Alps. The flowers nearly cover the leaves on some of the cushions and you can see exactly why it is so popular amongst alpine gardening enthusiasts. It grows at high altitudes and has even been found near the Matterhorn summit at nearly 4,478 metres (14,692 feet) where little else flourishes.
