Cotoneaster dielsianus   Diels' Cotoneaster I

Cotoneaster dielsianus whole Cotoneaster dielsianus close

This plant is named after Friedrich Ludwig Emil Diels (1874 to 1945), a German botanist and plant collector who spent quite a lot of time in New Zealand and Australia. Various Australian plants such as as Drosera dielsiana and Grevillea dielsiana have been named after him as well as this Cotoneaster.

Cotoneaster dielsianus is a shrub which can grow to 4m originating from Sichuan province in China. It is hardy to -21 Celsius and so has adapted to the British climate well. The branches with terminal clusters of fruit ripening in late summer and Autumn are typical. It is found dotted all over England but is less common in Scotland, mostly coastal in Wales and with very few sites in Ireland.
