Plantago major ssp intermedia whole Plantago major ssp intermedia close

The less common (now classified as a rare plant In New Flora of the British Isles edition 3 by Clive Stace) this one usually has only three veins in the large, flat leaves and a much smaller flower spike.

P. major ssp intermedia may well be under recorded as superficially it looks quite similar to P major ssp major. It is found scattered throughout the British Isles often nears the sea with the largest concentrations in Gloucestershire and south eastern Ireland.
