Waitzia acuminata var albicans Endemic

This is a less common variety of the predominantly orange/yellow Waitzia acuminata (Orange Immortelle) found in many places in south western Australia. Var albicans is commonest in the north around Geraldton and Kalbarri but is also dotted here and there in the wheat belt where we were lucky enough to find it in a Jarrah Forest but only in small numbers. The forest had been burnt the previous year and there is some evidence that this reduces the vigour of non native species allowing some native ones, perhaps like this, to flower a little more abundantly due to less competition.
