Alyogyne cuneiformis   Coastal Hibiscus Endemic

Alogyne cuneiformis whole Alogyne cuneiformis close

The plants in this genus belong to the Hibiscae tribe within the Malvaceae family known in Australia as Native Hibiscus to distinguish them perhaps from those that are found elsewhere in the world but the Alyogyne genera here are endemic to Australia. There were several large shrubs with few flowers showing at this site because we were a little early in the season but there were huge numbers of buds indicating a wonderful show to come in the near future.

Alyogyne cuneiformis is found quite commonly in the Geraldton and Shark Bay region and a little way up the coast towards Carnarvon and beyond but not inland and nowhere else in western Australia.
