Podolepis aristata Australian Endemic
Golden flowered species in Asteraceae are not unfamiliar to British botanists like me but this beauty was exceptional. Perhaps it was the bright Australian sky which made it look so good and the thousands of blooms dotted throughout the bush around Pindar, but it certainly rivalled my garden (wild bit) full of hundreds of Hydrochaeris radicata (Cat's-ear) with yellow blooms following the sun in a hot summer.
Podolepis aristata is quite a common species in Western Australia found dotted as far north as Carnarvon and common from Shark Bay along the Swan coastal plain and through the Wheat Belt almost down to the southern coast. It also occurs in south Australia, Victoria and Northern Territory.
